Stronger Together

In February, 2015 I was asked by Red Hat to make an animation for the opening of their upcoming partner conference. They gave me a lot of creative freedom on the project, and in return I worked my ass off to deliver something that I would be proud of. It was refreshing having the opportunity to decontstruct an existing brand and put my own spin on it.

I partnered with Tim Kiernan and Ed Tupper to help out with the script and music.

UPDATE: In 2016, I was commissioned to do an update of this video. The concept was largely the same, but I gave the visuals a complete overhaul. I may add a seperate case study to this project in the future, but for now it will just be a part of the old page.

Existing conference branding provided by Red Hat.

I immediately took interest in the line pattern within one of the blue 'ribbons' and used it as a starting point for brainstorming.

When completely deconstructed, the tiny line patttern within the graphic becomes an abundant mass of interesting shapes. This is when the relationship between collaboration and DNA began to form in the script.

A preliminary test showing how the shapes can be used in 3D space.

A 2D animation of the ribbons was projected onto 3D typography to construct the words.

I used inheritence effectors within Cinema 4D to contruct different forms from the cloned shapes.

About Me

I describe myself as a designer but I'm more of an obsessive generalist. I just love to learn new things. Throughout my career I've found myself working on a range of different projects like creating an employment branding strategy for a global company to filming medieval vikings in the snowy mountains of Utah.

These days, I'm busy hanging out with my daughter and making animations from my home studio in Raleigh, North Carolina.
